Well, you guys keep telling me to make a
pixel ID, so in a mighty show of individuality and independence, I did
exactly what everyone told me to do. Ha! Take
that, world!
By now, if you've been keeping track of my
previous ID's, you'll realize they all have this in common: Nothing.
Yes, I'll admit it - I have
no idea what I look like. But mind you, one of these days when my
brain is placed in a killer robot, I'll know for sure. Anyhow, this was an unusual opportunity for me to draw myself coolishly for once. At first I was all "Awesome, time to show off my awesome idealized self," but by the time I got to the portrait I was saying "Screw this, I'm crying." (<- note: read as "I have firmly decided that the me in this picture shall cry." I myself am as bouncy as a sponge in tar)
So I took some liberty with my usual wear and made it all funky. I put
dangerous teeth and eyes on my jacket and equally dangerous loose shoelaces on what appear to be velcro sneakers. I also have fur on my shorts (yes, I know - I amaze even myself). The jacket itself is actually sentient as shown in the portrait. Since this John is so much cooler and healthier than the real one, I have decided to name him John Su X, 'cause the real John sux.
Anyhow, this took a LONG long time, as I haven't worked seriously with pixels since ever. To some degree I followed this
tutorial, though in Fireworks instead of Photoshop. Photoshop breathes memory like air. I went through like 10 rejected poses and designs for my sprite character until by chance I finally came across this one. And by the time I finished coloring it and everything I realized "****, this looks like
Kingdom Hearts," and my brother confirmed it without me asking. But whatever. I'm not going through that whole process again, regardless of how fun it was.
For the most part I actually used Flash to make the rough for the sprite and the portrait image, since I still can't use pixel tools very well. I have to say that this experience has led me to appreciate vector brushes a lot more now. But anyhow, in the end I had to trace over the imported roughs with a pixel pen. Man, cleaning up the pixels is like half the work: vector = yeay.
Made in Fireworks (guest starring Flash!)
EDIT: A few of you have asked me if you could make a jacket like the one in this pic. My answer is: I don't mind - in fact, please do send me a picture!
This is awesome! ^^ I'm not very good at using Fireworks...
Ohohoho John, you shouldn't speak so lowly of yourself.
