Even though I said I wouldn't make one, I am apparently not as much a man of my word as I thought I was.

It only been 2 months since my last convention report, but I am vain and weak willed so here it is!

Anyhow, PAX was cool. We finally got to talk about our game, and I also got to wander around and see a lot of cool stuff other people were making. I am probably going to buy all the games on the Cool Stuff Page of this report. Except the wooden plate (which was free and came with food on top of it).

Well, that's about it. Thanks to everybody who visited me, even when I was not actually at the booth; it was a pleasure and an honor meeting you all in person!

Made in Flash

EDIT: Here's the wooden plate, you guys [link]

Actually, speaking of trade shows.. are you guys
gonna be at E3 next week?

Nope. Red 5 withdrew from E3 as a protest to the ESA's support for SOPA/PIPA. We then took the convention money and spent it on League for Gamers instead.

Bummer, so instead of using the money to better improve Firefall..
Mr. kern established a boycott of the "biggest" event in gaming?

lol, that's kind of a shame, but I wish you guys best of luck :w00t:

What is PAX exactly? I feel like such a noob for asking...Also, I have a few ?'s. Do you draw by hand or by table, and if you draw by hand, do you upload everything by scanner, or by a tablet? And when you do, do you edit on the computer or do you have everything edited beforehand? Just curious~

PAX is the Penny Arcade Expo - a gaming convention.
Everything is draw by tablet directly to Flash.

wait, so you are one of the people behind the upcoming title "firefall" O_O

wow, didn't expect a game developer to have a deviantart account let alone post something that get's on the front page of most popular in the last 24 hours (although i have no idea why i didn't-_-)

you know, i'm in my final year of high school here in belgium and i plan to go to college to study "digital arts & entertainment" [link]
and i was wondering, is it difficult to get into the game developing buisness and is this course i'm gonna take a suited one for becoming a game developer ?

(i just thought it might be a good idea to ask a professional ;))

I don't know! I majored in Electrical Engineering, of which I don't use any in my job. But I did take some programming classes during that time, which is now what I use for all my job. I suppose when you present yourself to a potential employer, you'll want to be able to show them these three things:

A) technical competence (I can do this!)
B) a portfolio of works (I have done this!)
C) passion for the task (I want to do this!)

this probably applies to many industries in general, and not just the game dev's.
School can help you prepare for A & B, self research for A & C, and personal projects for B & C.

hmmm, well, i don't have a lack of passion, that's for sure ^^
i've been intrigued by video games since i was 9 years old ;)

currently i'm following general IT classes in high school, we learn the basics of C++, php, javascript, visual basic and some server techniques, are those usefull in any other way then just grasping the basics of programming ?

thanks for the tips, they're pretty helpfull ;)

yea, being a "nerd" can be pretty sweet sometimes, being able to mess with the school pc's ^^
our computer techniques teacher even allowed us to make a website that opens up whenever a student tries to go to a website wich isn't allowed (a.k.a. porn, games, facebook, etc.) we haven't decided yet what to put on it, but knowing me and my classmates, it's gonna be pretty darn funny ^^
