Since Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day both happen to fall on the same weekend this Fanart February, I thought I might reconcile all three at once by making some art of Old Master Q (a.k.a. 老夫子 / Lǎo Fū Zi).

While it is a Chinese comic, I was able to enjoy these as a child since like 90% of the strips had no dialogue at all (even today I still don't know Chinese, btw). He's an interesting guy who communicates his personality more through his face and actions than words. You can read the strips online for free here at their official website: [link]

Drawing this piece was interesting. The art is remarkably easier to copy than the previous two fanarts I made this month. The woman in this picture is not any particular character, but one I made up for this situation, seeing as how Old Master Q seems to approach many women in the comics (the publication started from the 60's). It was interesting trying to mimic the fashion of the period, though. It was a little difficult trying to avoid spiky bangs and whatnot.

By the way, if you still can't figure out what's happening, he's presenting a tulip and simultaneously asking to be paid for it. Because that's just the kind of guy he is.

Whoa, ever since I left china never thought that I'll see this guy again. This drawing brings back my childhood memories, and I loved it despite nor being able to understansd single word (I was korean who went to international school). And your good understanding of original drawing style and character... so good.

This certainly feels nostalgic since my parents would give me their old issues of Master Q once they finished with them, this is great 8D
