Behold the awesome synthetic windup human known as Potetsu! Potetsu is the latest product of state-of-the-art technology, built by, oh, say, Frito-Lay. Among her abilities is super strength (1.2 horsepower!), WiFi connectivity, and Euclidean geometry. Potetsu can also draw power from potatoes.
Unfortunately, there was no market for Potetsu, as her roles could be easily filled by real people and existing machinery. Though she did show combat potential, such application was deemed impractical as a single bullet is enough to damage her and incur thousands of dollars in repairs.
So what's become of Potetsu? Her production's been placed on hold and the prototype has been consigned to the Frito-Lay warehouse, moving large crates tirelessly through out the day and chasing away the rampant ermines.
Well, this after someone suggested I try using dark-brown lines instead of black for my artwork in Pains of Rain, I decided to give it a shot. I have to say, I am hella pleased.
Potetsu's design started off as nothing more than a pose with no direction. I based her thick anatomy off of something I saw somewhere, which I can't quite remember, but the musculature proved to be a fun experience to draw. It makes me think of Capcom art. That may be why she kind of resembles Zero in her outfit...
Well, I hope her meat doesn't scare you too much; it's just part of her character as the power machine.
Her bangs were inspired by Konata's and the "tail" is something inspired by Pokemon or something. The windup key on her back was inspired by a dancing person I saw at Disneyland once, and I thought that was kinda cool. The circles and lines on her outfit were inspired by the homunculus of FMA (think she looks like Envy, anyone?). Oh, and Potetsu's name is sort of a portmanteau of "Potechi" and "Tetsu" ("Potato chips" and "Iron," respectively).
Well, needless to say, I had a blast with this one, and I hope you will too.
It's really cool seeing how far you've come.
